What does it mean to love?
Love can mean a million things but i’ll argue the most important way to love is the way God tells us to. There is a verse in the bible that talks about love and it’s one of my favorites because I am the type of person who needs things written down, drawn out and complete with a blueprint when things are being explained. Of course, I can get by without the intricate explanation but to know exactly what someone expects of me is helpful in motivating me and not overthinking. If your personality is opposite, that’s okay! This verse is still explained in a wonderful and straight forward way even for the sharpest minds!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

This verse is exactly what God expects of us and if you ask me, I LOVE IT! The tough fact to swallow about these verses is simply the difficulty behind achieving these strengths. To love our own family can be difficult sometimes but imagine a stranger or someone who has hurt you. This verse commands us to be all that love is no matter what and no matter who. The expectation is a high one but of course God knows our perfection will only be revealed in heaven but our hard work and effort to love is expected on earth right now. When you think of Gods definition of love, what comes to your mind? For me I think of all the times I don’t show love because of selfishness, and you may be thinking that as well. What does that say about us as God’s children? I recently came across John 13:34-35 which reminds us that how are people to know how we as God’s children are different, these verses clearly say love is the action that will set us apart from the world and draw people to know him. Kind of a “oops” moment wouldn’t you say? I certainty gain a different perspective that is much bigger than my selfish desire when I realize all the times, I missed out on showing love. It can be so hard to push through and love, especially when you don’t feel the love you are showing is doing anything or being returned but then again it reminds me of how God must feel when we choose to listen to ourselves instead of him and his love.
If anything from today sticks with you, don’t let it be overwhelm. Let it be thoughts to think about and excitement that growing and asking God for help every day is possible! There’s nothing we can change with God but remember, perfection is not a part of us however the strength of the holy spirit to learn and be better is! Love will come to be a gift of yours if you truly desire it. Give it time, speak life to yourself and I can’t wait to see your light shining.
